what was the Western front
The western front were the trenches that were snaked in a line that was 700 km long and stretched from the coast of Belgium to the boarder of Switzerland. In some areas there was only a few km that separated between the enemy’s and our trenches this are was known as no mans land and was really dangerous. (Darlington,
2012)
why did it start/how did it start.
When soldiers arrived on the western front both sides realised that there was going to be no cover no nothing. The Western front was just 700km of flat baron land. There were no tactical decisions to be made and because of the use of artillery, this made it even more dangerous because there was no shelter or cover. So the tactical decision of using trench system was accepted by both sides and became reality. (Darlington, 2012)
